Visual Resignification and Artificial Intelligence in Graphic Design Creative Processes

Abstract

The recent development of artificial intelligence tools has opened new possibilities in visual creation processes within the field of graphic design. In this context, this study analyzes a pedagogical experience aimed at exploring the visual resignification of everyday objects through creative processes developed by students and later intervened with artificial intelligence tools. The study adopts a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative analysis of visual productions with a survey administered to participating students. The findings show that artificial intelligence expands possibilities for visual experimentation, while also prompting reflections on creative control, authorship, and the role of the designer in image production. The study concludes that the critical integration of artificial intelligence tools in design education can foster aesthetic exploration and strengthen creative thinking.

Verónica Lucía Arévalo Vélez, Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador Sede Manabí

Verónica Lucía Arévalo Vélez is an architect with 20 years of professional experience. She holds a Master's degree in Digital Graphic Design and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Architecture at Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina. She is also a faculty member in the Graphic Design program at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, Manabí Campus. Throughout her career, she has worked on design, construction, and project supervision for both public and private institutions, including Ecuador's Ministry of Housing and municipal governments. In addition to her architectural practice, she is a photographer and illustrator with training in scientific writing. She has also participated as a speaker at national and international conferences on City Branding.
