O som ao redor: archeology of the modern vertical in the city of Recife (Portuguese version)

Abstract

An analysis of O som ao redor (Kleber Mendonça, 2012) focused on the way its narrative and visual style give emphasis to the different layers of time that interact in a Recife’s modern and verticalized neighborhood. In a comic- dramatic tone the film deals with clear tensions involving opposed social classes, tensions that have something to do with the way people from the higher social stratum deal with their private security.
