Policies on the use of AI tools

Ñawi Journal, firmly committed to the highest standards of academic integrity, editorial ethics, and scientific transparency, adopts international guidelines on the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the scientific publication process. The originality of the work is an essential criterion in our journal, which is focused on the humanities and art.

In this textual dimension, the authorship of works must correspond exclusively to the researchers who have carried out the research, excluding the possibility of artificial intelligence tools being considered authors. AI tools do not meet the essential requirements of authorship, such as the ability to assume ethical and legal responsibility for the content generated.

Therefore, authors will not be allowed to use AI exclusively for the creation of their manuscripts. If it is detected that the text of an article has been generated mostly by AI, without substantial contribution from the author in terms of analysis, interpretation, reflection, and argumentation, it will be rejected prior to publication or withdrawn if it has already been published.

Critical analysis, deep reflection, and rigorous research should not be replaced by artificial intelligence. In the case of our journal, which is closely related to aesthetics and visuals, the authors and the editorial team permitted the use of AI-generated images. However, whenever it occurs, it must be specified that the image was generated by AI and who generated it.

Author restrictions:

  • The use of AI is not permitted in articles submitted to the journal. The entire manuscript must be the sole work of the person interested in publishing. The use of AI for image generation is permitted. Still, it must always be specified that AI generated the image, and the person responsible for its generation must also be specified.

Editor restrictions:

  • The use of generative AI to analyze manuscripts, draft decision letters, issue editorial opinions, or process communications related to the editorial process is not permitted.
  • All editorial content and correspondence related to manuscripts must be considered confidential and may not be entered into generative AI platforms.
  • Editors are permitted to use images when designing the journal volume. Still, in such cases, it must be specified that such images were generated using AI, and the person responsible for the generation must also be specified.

Editor's responsibilities:

  • Supervise authors' and reviewers' compliance with AI usage policies.
  • Consult directly with authors in case of reasonable doubt about AI usage, communicating respectfully and transparently.
  • Act decisively in cases of clear evidence of misuse, making editorial decisions in line with Ñawi's ethical principles.
